Beaver Creek hosts the Birds of Prey World Cup again next month and it is the only men’s World Cup ski racing event in the United States. This is a big deal. Ski racers of Olympic caliber from all across the globe converge upon Vail and Beaver Creek for a long weekend of racing and all of the festivities that go along with it. If you are a fan of ski racing at all you will recognize plenty of names on the roster like Didier Cuche, Carlo Janka and Aksel Lund Svindal. Even if you aren’t a fan you’ll recognize US stars Ted Ligety and Bode Miller.
I went to the Public Bib Party last season which is where the athletes get their bibs so everyone gets to see them (I am a ski racing fan) and had a ball. US Ski Team members sign autographs, the Air Force Drum & Bugle Corp performs, there are fireworks, free ice skating, hot chocolate and more. It a fantastic family event!
Races take place for 3 days and you’ve got to get up to the finish stadium at least once if you are in town. There are huge screens available to watch the action, tons of fans, a beer garden, “half time” entertainment and the excitement is definitely palpable! It’s a good time, trust me.
Go Team USA!
