Dining in Lionshead: Five Minutes to a Full Belly
Lionshead often gets overlooked when it comes to Vail dining, but has some great options and is very close by.
Our property is just outside the lively center of Lionshead, but close enough that your teens can still run in and grab some ice cream without you sending out a search party. The restaurants in Lionshead are many of the BEST the Valley has to offer, so you’re not swapping quality for location. Here are a few of our favorites!
Tavern on the Square
Head straight into Lionshead and The Arrabelle, where you’ll find Tavern on the Square. It’s a cozy, lively spot and perfect for après ski, including daily live music. They offer a little bit of everything on their menu. Enjoy signature dishes, such as Buffalo Meatloaf, Grilled Elk Lettuce Wraps, Baja Fish Tacos and Lobster Mac and Cheese. Jen’s favorite item on the Tavern’s menu is the mouthwatering Prime Rib French dip. There are flat screen TVs all around the dining room and bar, so finding your game will not be a problem, guys!
Vail Chophouse
Across from the Tavern is another awesome restaurant, the Vail Chophouse. The Chophouse is known for its cuts of meat, fresh fish and a FREE champagne toast at every day afternoon during the winter season. Its deck overlooks the gondola, which makes for amazing people watching. You must try one of their infused vodkas! It’s also a perfect restaurant for families with nightly tableside magic and a children’s menu.
Montauk Seafood Grill
The best seafood and staff in town. It’s perfect for date night, family night, or girls’ night out. They fly the freshest, highest quality seafood and fish in daily, and support sustainable fishing practices. Their Seared Ahi Tuna dish is unbelievable, as is the Sand Pie for dessert!
Moe’s Original BBQ
And finally, through the village and up the stairs by the General Store, you’ll find local favorite Moe’s BBQ. They have pulled pork, smoked turkey and ribs, daily special sides, and the cheapest beer in town. Don’t forget to grab a sweet tea and a banana puddin’. Get there early, because when the food’s gone, Moe’s closes.
Other Favorites
French Deli (Les Delices de France) – Great for a quick breakfast before you head up the Gondola. Order an egg sandwich to-go and a coffee. You’ll be out of there in 15 minutes, max!
The Little Diner – Legendary in Vail for its delicious diner fare. Most popular for its hearty breakfasts (as evidenced by the lines), it also serves lunch.
Blue Moose Pizza – Great local spot for an inexpensive, filling lunch between powder runs. It’s also delicious for dinner or an après snack.
Bart and Yeti’s – Hit this spot if you are looking for apps, beers, and a great après ski. It’s one of the oldest restaurant/bars in Vail. You’ll always find someone to have a great chat with, and it’s probably one of the long time locals who frequent there.
Happy eating!
