Top 10 Ways to Stay Cool in Vail This Summer

The dog days of summer in Vail means temperatures reach the high 80s and sometimes low 90s. As locals, we consider this to be hot. Our lodging guests from Texas, Florida, the East Coast, or the Midwest think it’s balmy compared to their hot and humid locales. It’s all just a matter of perspective. Regardless, we know that it’s nice to find some respite from the sun and warm temperatures, so we compiled a list of the best ways to stay cool in Vail this summer

10 Ways to Stay Cool in Vail This Summer

1. Take a Dip in the Pool

Stay at Lodge at Lionshead and plan on spending some time relaxing at our beautiful outdoor pool along scenic Gore Creek. There’s no better way to cool off than with a dip in the water!

2. Go Whitewater Rafting

Don’t miss out on a whitewater rafting adventure. The refreshing water feels incredible on a hot summer day! There are plenty of amazing trips from which you can choose.

3. Try Kayaking or SUP

Looking for a thrill? To get even more up close and personal with the whitewater, consider learning to kayak or stand up paddleboard with Alpine Quest Sports

4. Hike to Higher Elevations

Hike up high for cooler temperatures. The elevation at Vail Pass starts at 10,000 feet, so it’s a good 10 degrees cooler. The wildflowers are amazing mid-to-late summer! Not to mention the views are unparalleled.

5. Soar Through the Sky

Go paragliding! You’ll get all kinds of cool breezes as you soar through the air. Plus, you’ll see Vail and Beaver Creek from a bird’s eye perspective.

6. Get an Ice-Cold Treat

Speaking of treats, what better way is there to cool off than with an ice cream cone? Take an afternoon ice cream break at Häagen-Dazs or Rimini Gelato in Lionshead.

7. Dine in the Shade

Have lunch creekside in Vail or Lionshead. Most restaurants have outdoor seating with plenty of umbrellas for shade. In the evenings, dine al fresco for dinner in the cool evening breeze.

8. Cast Your Line

Go fly fishing. Wade fishing is the norm in late summer, so you’ll be kneedeep in the cool river, plus the guides serve up great gourmet lunches.

9. Ride the Gondola

Ride the gondola and hang out at 10,000 feet. Go summer tubing, ride the Forest Flyer, eat lunch, have cocktails, do an easy hike, etc. Remember, temperatures are cooler the higher up you go.

10. Enjoy Indoor Entertainment

If you’re feeling competitive, challenge your friends and family to a game of bowling! Bōl is the perfect spot to get a strike and enjoy some delicious food while you’re at it.
