dogsledding

Ever wonder what it would be like to be an arctic explorer? Or just looking to get out and enjoy the solitude of the Rocky Mountains? Then this vacation, try a dog sledding tour.

Lodge at Lionshead does not offer dogsledding tours. This is a blog post about the dogsledding companies we recommend.

“Imagine the sound of the dogs’ feet hitting the snow and snow crunching under the runners. Come enjoy the quiet solitude of nature and all its splendor…” ~ Mountain Musher

Mountain Musher has been providing its guests exceptional experiences since 1989 and is definitely the outfitter to hire. They run on a private trail in Wolcott about 20 miles west of Vail. Parts of the trail are adventurous and exhilarating and the entire way is scenic with occasional wildlife sightings. The teams of 10-12 huskies pulling each sled are awesome to behold!

Tours run in the morning or afternoon. They include a break halfway through with hot drinks, snacks and great photo opportunities. If you are looking for something unique and exciting to do this winter, look no further!

If you have a lodging reservation at Lodge at Lionshead, our concierge staff is happy to assist with reservations for dog sledding or any other activitiy you would like to try while you’re in town.

Useful tips…

  • Dress as you would for skiing or snowboarding (i.e. warm clothes in layers) and wear plenty of sunscreen
  • Don’t forget your camera. Mountain Musher will take care of the rest!
